Automatic cars are great in traffic jams, it’s nice not to have to shift between first and neutral over and over. These cars are now increasingly common, there are four gearboxes in automatic cars that are ‘P’ (for parking), ‘R’ (reverse), ‘D’ (drive) and ‘N’ (neutral).

GEARBOXES OF AUTOMATIC CARS:

When we take automatic driving lessons we learn about the gearboxes of automatic cars. Now here the question is; what are gears boxes in automatics cars and how many gearboxes are there in automatic cars?  So this little confusion can be cleared by taking driving lessons. There are four gearboxes in automatic cars and now we are going to discuss these gearboxes below:

USE OF D (drive) IN AUTOMATICS CARS:

In automatic cars, D stands for (Drive), D is the top gear setting on an automatic transmission. Almost in all vehicles, D is overdrive and the purpose of D is to save fuel.

USE OF R (reverse) IN AUTOMATIC CARS:

In automatic cars, R stands for (reverse) or it’s the gear selected to drive the vehicle backwards. In these cars when we shift the gear lever from P to R then the automatic transmission’s reverse gear is engaged and spins the drive shaft backwards and allows the drive wheels to spin in reverse or backward.

USE OF N (neutral) IN AUTOMATIC CARS:

In automatic cars, N stands for (neutral) basically N is an indicator in automatics cars that tells you that tour automatic transmission is in NEUTRAL or in free-spinning mode.

USE OF P (parking) IN AUTOMATIC CARS:

In automatic cars, P stands for (parking), so; when the gear shifter is in P (park) the transmission gears are locked which restricts the wheels to spin forward or backwards many of the peoples use the park settings as a brake.

Steps to start automatic cars are given below:

Following are the steps to be taken before you start an automatic car:

  1. At first insert key into the ignition
  2. Now twist the ignition key to start the car
